About

Jesus was a harbinger of soul. He demonstrated and announced the Kingdom of Heaven invading earth, beginning the process of restoring and reconciling all of creation to its creator. And so we want to be harbingers of soul as well, pointing to places in our lives, city, culture and communities where we see God at work. In obvious places like our church communities and less obvious places like any given moment in Grant Park or on a record made by a Scottish hardcore punk band.
Harbinger of Soul is primarily written by Dave Sandell, a late 20-something living in Chicago, pursuing healing, creating deeper communities, growing his marriage and trying to put together the perfect soundtrack to it all. Dave is a pastor on staff with the Vineyard Christian Church of Evanston. He is also incapable of not thinking about how to do church differently.
Dave’s top-ten favorite ways to spend an evening include listening to music (including, but not limited to, Radiohead, Margot & the Nuclear So & So’s, Spoon, Andrew Bird, the Black Keys, Future of the Left and Neko Case), watching the NBA & rooting for the Cubs, getting swept up in Lost & Chuck (okay, and The Office, Friday Night Lights & a few others), feeling like a kid watching Pixar movies, learning from teachers like Rob Bell, Greg Boyd & NT Wright, reading Bill Simmons, learning to cook, thinking about church, getting into conversations about being a follower of Jesus in 2009 Chicago, and doing something about those conversations.
